A crystal lotus
A crystal lotus offering to my Lama.
A symbol teaching me stainless purity.
A guide for my own Bodhisattva aspirations.
The lotus, my Lama, I offer homage and thanks.

As a child, crystal ornaments induced attachment.
Later, a man’s association changed it to aversion.
But after your caring instructions on Tonglen,
No more obscuration for the man or the crystal.

Hence, this offering represents purity
that of the lotus and my own mind’s essence.
I have oceans of karma yet to purify
but with your kindness I know I’ll purify more.

Aspiration to benefit the humble worm
Should this life amount to nothing more
than mineral rich nourishment for the
worm that partakes of my decaying body,
then let me be perfect nourishment!

————————————————————–

Bathe
Each day when you go
to put on the dress
of life’s complexity,
make sure you’ve bathed
in the coolness
of your mind’s simplicity.

————————————————————–

Belief
If you have to prove your beliefs to others,
Then you do not truly believe them yourself.

————————————————————–

Bubble bath
Sitting without compassion,
calm-abiding without aspiration,
joy without wisdom:
bubble bath meditation.

————————————————————–

Bubbles
Arising thoughts are simply
children’s gently blown bubbles
evaporating on the wind.

————————————————————–

Cow’s Ears
What is life, if we can not
appreciate the shape
of
cows’ ears?

————————————————————–

Dechen (Great Bliss)
A precious human birth – how wonderful!
To realize it is precious – even better!

————————————————————–

Gratitude
I used to enjoy being asleep.
Now I enjoy being awake!

Is
We perceive things
in different ways.
But what is, just is,
no matter what we say.

Questions & Answers
Questions resolved
do not necessarily
equate to answers.

————————————————————–

Saddam
Tears filled my eyes as you hung.
All I could say was,
OM MANI PEME HUNG

————————————————————–

Spiders
I’ve never been frightened by spiders,
though I’ve scared myself on sighting them.
But how silly to react to these creatures,
how foolish to suffer such fright.
And what bliss it is to rest
in their appearance
when mind is recognized!

Stop!
A moment of respite –
Red on traffic lights.

The Dove’s Last Teachings
Illusion:
Mistaking appearances
to be the actual forest,
the dove’s ignorance
flies her into a window.

Transcience:
Holding the dove in my hand
as the heat leaves her body,
she imparts a lesson
on impermanence.

The Gift
The gift of honesty is like
giving a bouquet of roses:
everyone is allured by
the aroma of truth,
but how the thorns are handled
depends solely on the receiver.

————————————————————–

The Tube
London transport
generously teaches
Dharma to all:
“Mind the gap!”

————————————————————–

Wishing Well
My wishing well mind
is bottomless, beginingless, and vast.
It wishes you well
wherever and forever.

————————————————————–
Words
Words will only illuminate ignorance –
Glinting in the mirror they obscure wisdom.
Observing them as mere mental projections,
awareness reveals our original face.
