Glastonbury camp fire

“Burn your burnables!” – those immortal words,
spoke from minds of nonsense, totally absurd.
Though the phrase was whimsical, it did have a soul;
it said to all those young, never become old!

It is end of the 1993 Glastonbury festival (highlights: Robert Plant and Suede; lowlights: The Velvet Underground and The Orb); we were starting to pack up. The fire was still lit, and with the aim of reducing rubbish to take home, Aidan gave the shout “Burn your burnables”. The phrase stuck as an amusing memory of what, on reflection, was a sad time: in the following months/years to come three quarters of my group spent time in a psychiatric institution.
